Kathrein dance of the Guard of the City of Bad Ischl

The name can be traced back to St. Catherine, whose name day is on November 25th. Tradition has it that the following Advent, as Lent and the beginning of the church year, was a so-called dance-free time. In this context, one sometimes hears the saying in the vernacular: "Kathrein stops dancing".

Every year in November the Guard of the City of Bad Ischl organizes a traditional dance evening called "Salzkammergut Kathreintanz". This marks the end of the “traditional” dance season in terms of folk culture.

The Guard of the City of Bad Ischl is happy to welcome people who love to dance and asks them to dance to down-to-earth folk music.
